Introducing the project
SaltFEP is a compilation (a catalogue) of Features, Events, and Processes in a repository system for radioactive waste in salt formations. The catalogue is for bedded or domal salt and mainly aims at heat-producing radioactive waste.
The work is focused on completeness and on the description of all relevant FEPs of the system. The project started in 2013 and is in permanent development.
Before 2013, a text file has been established with a set of some 25 FEP descriptions. It turned out that work on such a text file is hard to coordinate between partners and the idea was born to establish an interactive access via a database. In the present version, access is via a web interface (www.saltfep.org) and a login-based structure. Thus, only registered users are able to read and write to the database. In a later version it is foreseen to give read access to the public.
The first draft version of the FEP database was ready for operation in 2016. In 2017, the FEP list within the database has been completed and the usage of the web interface was refined. Further improvements in the usage of the web interface are in development. Although the project is run by the two partners GRS and Sandia, a collaboration with external institutions is not excluded.
